Is online prescribing allowed in Missouri?

Yes. Missouri law, RSMo 191.1146, lets a physician-patient relationship be established through a telemedicine encounter when the standard of care does not require an in-person visit, and RSMo 334.108 requires that relationship before a physician prescribes through telemedicine. As amended by H.B. 2372 (effective August 28, 2026), a questionnaire is reviewed by the treating physician and must collect what an in-person evaluation would, and the provider using it must be employed by or contracted with a business entity licensed to provide health care in Missouri. A Missouri-licensed physician can therefore evaluate you and prescribe a non-controlled medication online without a prior in-person visit.

What a physician can prescribe for you in Missouri

Temi's physicians prescribe non-controlled medications. The physician decides each request on its own, and may ask follow-up questions or decline.

Yes, in Missouri

  • A refill of a non-controlled medication you already take, such as blood pressure, cholesterol, thyroid, diabetes, acid reflux, antidepressant, or birth control medication.
  • A new non-controlled medication, such as an antibiotic for a UTI or sinus infection, when the physician agrees it is appropriate.
  • Compounded GLP-1 weight loss medication, filled by a partner pharmacy that ships to Missouri. See GLP-1 weight loss in Missouri.

No, anywhere Temi operates

  • Controlled substances, including any medication Missouri schedules on its own authority. Temi does not prescribe them.
  • Isotretinoin (Accutane) and other medications that need an in-person program.
  • Anything that needs a physical exam, emergency care, or care for someone under 18.
  • Insurance billing. Temi never bills insurance. You can use your insurance or a discount card for the medication at your pharmacy.

How it works

  1. Tell us what you need.

Search your medication, answer a short set of questions, and confirm you are in Missouri. For a new prescription there is a free check before you pay anything.

  2. A Missouri-licensed physician reviews it.

Within 48 hours, often sooner. The physician may ask a follow-up question or decline; the fee pays for the review, not for a yes.

  3. It goes to your pharmacy.

We send the prescription to the pharmacy you chose and share the Rx number. You pay the pharmacy for the medication.

Your pharmacy

Keep the pharmacy you already use, in Missouri or anywhere else. Temi sends the prescription there and you pay the pharmacy for the medication, with insurance, a discount card, or cash. Temi does not pay for medication at your pharmacy, and our care team helps with transfers, discount cards, and pharmacy calls when something gets stuck. Compounded GLP-1 medication is the exception: a partner pharmacy licensed to ship to Missouri fills it, and the medication price is shown before you pay.

A Missouri-licensed physician can also review you for compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide, with partner pharmacies compared in the open on price.

Frequently asked questions

Is online prescribing legal in Missouri?

Yes. Missouri law lets a physician establish care with you through a telemedicine encounter when the standard of care does not require an in-person visit (RSMo 191.1146), and requires that relationship before prescribing through telemedicine (RSMo 334.108). Temi's Missouri reviews are done by a Missouri-licensed physician.

Can a Missouri telehealth provider prescribe medication without seeing me in person?

Yes, for a non-controlled medication, when the physician decides an in-person visit is not needed for your request. Your questionnaire is reviewed by the treating physician and collects what an in-person evaluation would. Controlled substances are not prescribed.

Can I get my prescription refilled online in Missouri?

Yes. Tell us the medication you already take and your pharmacy. A Missouri-licensed physician reviews the request within 48 hours, often sooner, and if approved sends the prescription to your pharmacy. The review is $15, or $0 with Temi Care, and you pay the pharmacy for the medication.

Can a doctor in another state prescribe for me in Missouri?

What matters is where you are when you submit the request. Temi's physician holds a Missouri license, and you confirm you are in Missouri before the review starts. If you are in a state Temi does not serve yet, you can join the waitlist.

Do I need to see a doctor in person in Missouri to get a prescription?

Not for a non-controlled medication reviewed by Temi. There is no appointment and no video visit. If the physician decides your request needs an exam or emergency care, they will tell you, and the fee is for the review.

Does Temi take insurance in Missouri?

No. Temi never bills insurance. The review fee is $15 for a refill or $79 for a new prescription, cash pay and HSA/FSA eligible, and $0 with Temi Care. At your pharmacy you can use insurance or a discount card for the medication.

Can I get gabapentin refilled online in Missouri?

Yes. Gabapentin is not a controlled substance under federal law or in Missouri, so a Missouri-licensed physician can review a refill request for it. In a few states that schedule it, Temi does not prescribe it.

What happens if the physician says no?

The physician explains the decision to you. The fee pays for the review, so a no alone is not refunded; if you are not satisfied with the clinical service, tell the care team why and the review fee is refunded.
