The short answer: generic losartan costs a few dollars a month at the cheapest pharmacies. The pills are rarely the expensive part. The appointment to get them renewed is.
What losartan costs without insurance
Walmart lists losartan in its Prescription Program: 30 tablets for $9 and 90 tablets for $24, for 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg. Cost Plus Drugs, a mail-order pharmacy, lists 30 tablets of 50 mg at $5.52 plus $5.25 shipping. Prices checked October 14, 2026.
Prices change by pharmacy, by strength, and by state. Walmart's own list says prices can be higher in some states, including California.
Generic and brand names
Losartan is the generic. The brand is Cozaar. Your bottle may say "losartan potassium," which is the same medication with its full chemical name. Cost Plus labels it "Losartan (Generic for Cozaar)." Walmart's list just says "LOSARTAN."
One thing to check: losartan combined with hydrochlorothiazide (often written "losartan/HCTZ") is a different product with its own price. Walmart lists losartan/HCTZ 50/12.5 mg in a separate, cheaper table: 30 for $4 and 90 for $10. Before you compare prices, read your label and price exactly what it says.
Price by strength and package
At Cost Plus Drugs, the price moves a little with strength and a lot less than you might expect with quantity:
Shipping is $5.25 on top. So a 90-day supply of 50 mg comes to about $11.80 delivered, against about $10.77 for 30 days. Three times the tablets for about a dollar more.
At Walmart, three 30-day fills cost $27. One 90-day fill costs $24.
Cash price vs. your insurance copay
Your copay is set by your plan, not by the pharmacy. For a generic this cheap, the cash price can be lower than the copay. Ask the pharmacist to quote it both ways. Walmart's list says the same thing in its fine print: you may pay less or more than the program price, depending on your health plan.
One trade-off: a cash purchase may not count toward your insurance deductible. If you are close to meeting it, ask your plan.
Four ways to pay less for the pills
- Ask for the cash price. The pharmacy will tell you both prices if you ask.
- Use a free discount card. Cards like the ones you see at the pharmacy counter cost nothing and can lower the cash price. Show it before they ring you up.
- Ask about a 90-day supply. It usually costs less per tablet, and it is two fewer trips. Walmart notes that prescriber permission may be required to change a 30-day prescription to a 90-day one. Your prescriber decides whether a 90-day supply is right for you.
- Compare two or three pharmacies. A five-minute phone call can find the lowest price near you. You can move your prescription to whichever one wins.
How to move a prescription to a cheaper pharmacy
If you still have refills left, you do not need a new prescription to switch. Call the new pharmacy and tell them you want to transfer. Have the old pharmacy's name and phone number and the Rx number from your label. The new pharmacy contacts the old one for you. Ask when it will be ready before you drive over.
If you are out of refills, there is nothing left to transfer. You need a new prescription, and you can have it sent straight to the cheaper pharmacy.
The part nobody mentions: the visit
A few dollars a month for the medication. Then your refills run out, and the pharmacy says you need a new prescription.
That usually means booking an appointment, waiting for it, taking time off, and paying for the visit. For a medication you have taken for years, the visit can cost more than a year of pills.
How Temi fits
Temi is a doctor's office for exactly this moment.
- $15. That pays for a licensed physician to review your refill request. You see the price before you pay.
- No appointment, no video call. You answer a few questions online, any time of day.
- Your pharmacy. If the physician approves, the prescription goes to the pharmacy you choose. You pay the pharmacy for the medication, at whatever price you found above.
- Fast. We promise an answer within 48 hours. In the last 90 days, half of losartan refill requests were sent to the pharmacy in about 5 hours.
What to have ready
The online questions take a few minutes. It helps to have:
- Your current bottle or label, so you can enter the name, strength, and directions exactly as printed.
- The pharmacy you want to use, with its address or phone number.
- The name of the doctor who last prescribed it.
- A list of your other medications.
- A card to pay the $15.
The questions ask what has changed since your last prescription. Answer them as you would for your own doctor.
What if the physician says no?
The physician makes the call. Sometimes the answer is that a refill is not the right next step without something more, like an in-person visit. If so, the physician explains the decision and what to do next.
The $15 covers the review whether or not a prescription is written. If you are not happy with the visit, tell us why and we refund it.
Questions people ask
Is there a coupon for losartan? There is no manufacturer coupon for the generic, because it does not need one. Free pharmacy discount cards do the same job.
Can I get losartan refilled without seeing my doctor in person? Yes, in the states where Temi operates: Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Michigan, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin. A physician reviews your history online and decides.
Does Temi take insurance? No. Temi's $15 is cash only. You can still use your insurance or a discount card at the pharmacy for the medication itself.
