About Zepbound®
Zepbound® (tirzepatide) is a once-weekly injection, FDA-approved alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity to help adults with obesity — or adults with overweight and at least one weight-related condition — lose excess weight and keep it off. It is also FDA-approved to treat moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity.1
How it works. Tirzepatide is a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist. It activates two gut-hormone receptors — GIP and GLP-1 — that influence appetite, fullness, and how the body handles food, which can help you eat less.1

- FDA-approved for chronic weight management and for moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity.
Dosing and titration
A clinician sets your dose. The label's schedule starts low and steps up gradually to help limit side effects.1
- Weeks 1–4
- 2.5 mg once weekly
- Weeks 5–8
- 5 mg once weekly
- Then, no sooner than every 4 weeks
- Increase by 2.5 mg
- Maximum dose
- 15 mg once weekly
The 2.5 mg dose is for starting treatment and is not a maintenance dose. The recommended maintenance doses are 5, 10, or 15 mg once weekly (5 mg for weight management only). Doses increase no sooner than every 4 weeks.1
What the studies show
In SURMOUNT-1 — a 72-week trial of 2,539 adults with obesity or overweight (without type 2 diabetes) — average body-weight reduction, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, was:23
- 5 mg dose
- 16.0%
- 10 mg dose
- 21.4%
- 15 mg dose
- 22.5%
- Placebo
- 2.4%
In separate trials (SURMOUNT-OSA), tirzepatide reduced the number of breathing interruptions per hour in adults with moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea and obesity.4
These are trial averages. Individual results vary with dose, health history, diet, and exercise, and weight loss is not guaranteed.
